We have been covering Mayhem Festival for a number of years, and it was the basic replacement for Ozzfest. We always liked Ozzfest so much more, as it was the premiere showcase for the latest in metal, and had so many upcoming bands on the roster. Mayhem took over that mantra, but had been losing the power with so many old bands that were not really helping the genre. Having just been to Van’s Warped Tour, the crowds are always packed with young and upcoming bands from every type of music genre. This allows fans to catch bands they might not normally even look at, because of the unique time slots for Van’s alternating.

When I arrived at the same location, I realized something was very different… main stage… side stage… nothing else. The crowd was WAY DOWN! Talking to some insiders I know, it had been apparent that major sponsors were pulling out of the festival as well. I have a feeling this will be the end!

 

UPDATE: Appears we were right, Mayhem has been reported as dead. We knew it was coming!
